Carling Ursem, M.D.

Dr. Ursem is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with a comprehensive background in cancer care, clinical research, and medical education. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by her medical degree from Columbia University. She completed her internal medicine residency at Duke University Hospital and went on to pursue a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Further deepening her expertise, Dr. Ursem completed an additional Aging Research Fellowship at UCSF, focusing on the unique needs of older adults with cancer.

Before joining Marin Cancer Care, Dr. Ursem served as an attending physician at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. During her tenure, she held leadership roles in both education and research, playing a pivotal role in expanding the prostate cancer clinical trials program. Although she deeply valued the academic environment and opportunities for innovation, Dr. Ursem was drawn back to her true passion—providing patient-centered, compassionate clinical care.

At Marin Cancer Care, Dr. Ursem treats all types of cancer, with particular emphasis on gastrointestinal and genitourinary malignancies. She is committed to delivering personalized, evidence-based care in a setting that prioritizes patient well-being. Outside of work, she enjoys trail running and spending time outdoors with her husband and their two daughters, embracing the natural beauty of California.
